USA: New customs requirements for aluminum imports from 28 June 2025

CCS inside · Blog

The US customs authority CBP (Customs and Border Protection) has announced new requirements for the import of aluminum products into the United States. From June 28, 2025, it will be mandatory to provide information on the smelting and casting country of the aluminum used for affected shipments.

This origin information must be indicated on the commercial invoice, pro forma invoice or sales invoice. Without this information, the goods will automatically be subject to a punitive tariff of 200% in accordance with Section 232.

If no country of origin is specified, shipping service providers such as UPS will set the origin as "UN" (unknown) by default - which also leads to the application of the punitive tariff. The measure is part of stricter import controls in connection with US security and trade protection measures.

Where should customers indicate the melting and casting country?

The best place on the invoice to indicate the country of melting and casting is in the product description. Alternatively, this information can also be provided in the “Additional comments” section.

Do you want to handle US exports safely and in compliance with regulations? We will be happy to support you.
